In my mind, as long as we're asking people to download three different apps, learn about keys, learn about this, learn about that, we're always going to end up with lukewarm users who disappear after a day or two

I think one of the greatest challenges for tech savvy people (like you!) is to understand how frustrating it is for many of us to deal with keys, nodes, apps. Ex: I curate for two communities, The Inkwell and LMAC. In both cases when I was told I had to handle community keys, I was intimidated. It was very hard for me. Simple thing, but not for me. Recently I tried to post in Worldmappin and messed up the location so that my location ended up in Krakow. I'm never going to try and post in worldmappin again because there are simpler ways to post.

That's a lesson. People have a lot of options for engaging in social media. They are going to choose the most accessible. I know, stupid, but there are many like me out there. It has to be really simple to catch the tech dunces like me. I was lucky...when I signed up to Hive I had a tech-savvy son who helped me over the rough patches. Without his help from time to time, I probably would not be here now. We can't have a network only for people who have tech-savvy relatives, or who are tech-savvy themselves.

Just my simple two cents :) I love being here. I'm glad I made it over the rough patches.
