Here is my real comment: I always say that science and art are inseparable. You prove that with this essay. It explores the very origins of human life--of life on this planet. Is that not poetic? This is a wonderful read. Yes, we are fish (at least in some remote sense). That's wonderful, but not as delightful as the hiccup. Thank you for that one bit of trivia that tethers us to the rest of the animal kingdom.
