I thought of Marius the giraffe as I wrote this. Ecologists are not necessarily lovers of nature. They are calculating scientists. They don't see the swan's feathers, they don't see Marius' lovely eyes. They see numbers. Might as well be accountants.

I do understand land management, trying to pull the humane levers that help to restore balance. But murder??? no.
