I love fall. It's actually my favorite season...the weather, the colors...but it marks the end of something. You can't escape the metaphor. Life (summer, spring, plants--even insect life) ebbs away as leaves fall from the trees, plants shrivel and the sun recedes. While it is beautiful, and intense (think of the colors!) there is a poignancy to it. I don't think it's an accident that the holiday celebrating end of fall and the harvest, Halloween, is rich with symbols of death.
Wow, all you had to do was show me a picture of a cicada and look what happened.😄 I guess I'm just in a somber mood.
