It's interesting, this dilemma we face with Hive engagement. Hive is for sure a crypto platform. That was a lure for many participants. That was the glue that held them here. It turns out, that is a rather superficial glue. Then there are those for whom Hive is more. It is a social platform. It's a place to express ideas. It's a place to write and to read. For those people the crypto aspect was always a bonus.
Facebook doesn't offer a financial incentive to most people. Twitter doesn't either. While there are people who monetize engagement, overall people participate because of the other rewards, the social engagement. I think the price of Hive matters because many of the people who are here are not here for the engagement. They are here for the crypto. I don't know how to fix that.
I'm going to be mighty sad if Hive goes away. As it is, so many people I enjoyed communicating with are gone. I'm staying out of loyalty, and because I'm not a quitter. But it is discouraging.
I refuse to chase those rewards. I'm going to blog about what I think is interesting. I'm going to comment when I am interested in something someone has said. That's it.
The crypto is just a data point on my account. It doesn't affect my behavior at all--except to motivate me to try and help the platform succeed by doing more than I used to.
