Finally I stop to read your wonderful post. I have always wondered about the difference between moths and butterflies. I was not aware that both have diurnal and nocturnal species.

I do have a question for you:

The idea of a butterfly collection has always offended me. I don't understand how someone could want to capture these creatures and kill them just to have them as part of a collection. Is there any reason, beyond vanity, for having such collections?

I know science requires sacrifice and investigation, but I think a lot of people who 'collect' butterflies just do it for 'fun'. How is that fun?

You don't have to answer that question if you think the response will be controversial.

As always, a wonderful post. Thank you.
