A couple of weeks ago I was taking a walk in my neighborhood and passed by a pet store. I decided to peek in and was just falling in love with a cute & playful puppy ... when I heard the following : "Yeia sou .... Yeia sou.... Yeia sou".
(which means "Hello ...Hello... Hello..." in the Greek language).

I looked over and saw ....

... Green ...

... well that's what I baptized her - as I (wrongfully) thought/hoped she would become mine.
Now tell me, how can you resist such character, beauty & charm? ...

Green was quite vocal and friendly - and when I asked her if she wanted to come home with me she immediately said "Nai" (i.e. Yes in Greek). Now, I know her vocabulary was limited - but, still ... in my mind she gave me her consent & willingness.
She let me touch her gently on her head & even posed for a photo.

This parrot (known as the Blue-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva) or Turquoise-fronted Amazon or Blue-fronted Parrot) derives its name from the distinctive blue marking on its head just above its grey beak. Such species are predominantly green & have yellow feathers on their face and crown.

I spoke with the pet shop owner to get some information about "Green"...
He told me that Green is a South American species of Amazon parrot, quite social and makes a great companion pet. He smiled and went on to say that amazon parrots have a remarkable ability to mimic human speech and other sounds. With regards to Green he noted that she has "talking ability" & if I spend time with her can teach her to say many words. He also explained that Green is easily pleased and will eat just about anything put in front of her - but suggested to feed her with a varied diet of fruits, vegetables, seed and or pellets and a small supply of nuts. Then, he shocked me by saying he would let me have her for only 1,500 Euro!!

Green seemed to understand that something was wrong & started to "ham it up" in order to get my attention.

Of course, I immediately went close to her and started caressing her head.

The pet shop owner looked at us and stated that these parrots demand a lot of attention, and become quite attached to their owners. He cautioned that this must be taken into serious consideration as they may become depressed if you are apart even for a period of a week and given this separation/sadness/loneliness may even die ... so, I should take her with me if I take any trips. He also said that leaving her alone during the day is not recommended.
This was the second and last bullet & I just stood there looking at the owner with a sad face...

... as I left the pet store I could hear Green saying "Yeia sou .... Yeia sou.... Yeia sou".
(which also means " Goodbye ... Goodbye... Goodbye..." in the Greek language).
