We had our first ever Splinterlands Town Square earlier this week. It went for a little over an hour with Aggy, WeirdBeard, and Rondon answering community questions. Some community members even got on stage to speak to some of their concerns and ideas.

Overall, I actually really liked the format. It was much more casual than a traditional town hall and players got to ask as many questions as they wanted within the timeframe. That doesn’t always happen during town halls.

There were a couple of really cool ideas brought up that I wanted to discuss here. The first was finding a way to gamify proposal engagement. Aggy mentioned another project that was currently doing this and I thought it would be a great idea for Splinterlands as well. The basic premise is to do some kind of in game reward, most likely not monetary based, every time somebody votes on a proposal. Right now our average engagement is less than half of the SPS staked. That is very underwhelming and I hope if they find a way to do this successfully it will increase engagement overall.

The second was brought up by Dave McCoy, one of the community leaders, who talked about having unlocks for soul bound cards be temporary. The basic idea behind this is to charge a smaller fee but have the cards become soul bound again after a short period of time (maybe a month). During that time frame you will be able to sell or transfer the cards as you like. In this way people will only unlock cards if they have something to do with them.

The thing about these town squares is that a lot of great ideas will be thrown out but we have no idea if and when some thing would be implemented. Many of these may even need a proposal in order to be taken seriously. Regardless, I thought the format for the first day went well and I look forward to having these sessions with the team during the off weeks from town halls.

Did you attend the town Square? What were your thoughts?
