I was on a snap yesterday talking about what people assume about us to be, of which I mentioned being stubborn and even though I dont want to agree to be stubborn, I know I can sometimes be, and it can be a sweet one actually. Depending on what happens and who its happening with.
Being stubborn doesn't always have to be negative and making people speak so ill about us. We can be stubborn on being determined not to change our policies for anyone or anything no matter what may happen and even when it seems like the whole world is turning against us based on our decision and not yielding to theirs, you know what you want for yourself and that keeps you going. It doesn't mean we are not ready to take feedback or listen to others opinions but it's a decision we made and a focus we have our eyes on.
Although, at times there may be situations whereby we end up thinking about it that if we had really listened and not determined not to bend to others opinions, it could have been a different positive outcome but then we can't be make it right all the time so there are times for mistakes and errors.
The experience I had with being stubborn and I was proud of myself as not yielding to others opinion was on marriage issue. The kind of pressure I had received in my life from relative (not even my immediate family), church, and close people in general, I would have end up in the wrong hands by now which was very obvious but all thanks to the fact that I wasn't desperate like they wanted me to be. The pressure mounted increasingly most especially when my sibling got married and it was about being painted like an unseriousness part of me.
The point of matchmaking got me really off when I wasn't even carried along before my contact was given out. Marriage isn't a college that I have to spend 3 to 6 years and leave but a lifetime institution where I have to live in, live with, and none of them would actually partake in the journey either sweet or sour. So I'll be the reason for the decision on what and who I want, not because I want to be picky but because I won't be so desperate and pressurized to overlook premium red flags because I want to get married like my friends and siblings have.
But one of the times I will say my stubbornness made me have a rethink that it could have been different and better if I had changed my mind, was about a job I got almost immediately when I left my previous toxic job. It had everything I could have wanted in terms of accomodation, no transportation fare, reasonable basic salary and some benefits but I wasn't mentally ready to take a job then with all I went through with the previous employer.
I was practically traumatized and scared of taking the offer even when I knew I needed it to sustain myself of life and bills. It could have been a different thing for me now instead of this whole long career break.
Every act can not always be wrong or always right. When they make us proud, carry the horns and raise it and when they bring about corrections, embrace it and prevent future mistakes.
