It's so funny how most people hates examinations like the faeces from their butts but expect to leave the stage we are to another better level. It doesn't have to do with academics alone but also in every aspect of life. Be it for work,academics and life in general.
Taking examination is not something about memory alone even if memory is still at stake because for everything we learn and we are able to assimilate and answer questions from, means we have a store for whatsoever we've learned. What's even a human with no memory, so it is not wrong when we say examination is a test of memory.
How long can we hold things in our memory and how well as some people are so good at cramming things so well and good but after they are done with whatever they need it for, everything they crammed gets wiped off like a car wiper cleaning off the water on the windscreen.
This happens a lot with students in either secondary/college and tertiary institutions especially when it has to do with difficult courses or subjects that is also not taken by a sound and good teacher or lecturer so it becomes hard knowing that subject or course.
This once happened to me on a course called psychology while I was in a tertiary institution and from that day I vowed never to try such again because I was dealt with and almost failed the course if not that I had some knowledge about this course initially but just had to cram some topics since the course was too ambiguous, I didn't get the textbook on time and the issue of all these lecturers wanting you to give the exact answers from their textbooks and not from internet or another book as your source. So I was left with my assimilated reading while all other things crammed disappeared upon sitting to receive the question paper.
But if we will look at it intentionally, exams are not only done to test the capacity of our memories but to also get to know how intelligent we are, how well we have been able to understand what has been taught and needs to be done. Can we really get to solve further problems from whatever we've been taught and that's why when assignments are given or even in exams, questions that we are given are always a bit more difficult to solve than the one being solved by the teacher as an example for classwork. If you don't understand that example then there is no way you will be able to solve any problem whatsoever from that topic which won't come easy at you.
We all know that to every promotion and upgrade in life's level, there will always be a test to prove you're worthy and that's why examination is a test of intelligence. Are you fit and worthy for the next class? Are you fit to be certified for the degree? Are you fit to take up the position you applied for as promotion in the office because exams does not have to do with academics alone. Workplaces ensures that their staff takes promotional exams and they get promoted when they pass, coupled with other factors put in place.
It means that knowledge is not something that can be waved off as long as we want greatness in life which is why it's established that as long as we live, we continue to learn and even if whatever we learn does not get applicable in the same area or aspect of life, knowledge is still an essential part of our human's life.
In summary, examination is a means of measuring how knowledgeable we are in whatsoever we do either officially or unofficially but as long as we claim to move higher from a previous stage we are to another level then we must be ready to go through the stairs of examination.
