These ancient petroglyphs can be traced back to early prehistoric humans. There are hundreds of them in the area and can be found along Owens valley where the town of Bishop lies.
This is one of my early experiments to take nighttime shots of the sky without long exposure - High ISO under 30 seconds (to avoid star trails). The scene is illuminated by the moon for the most part and I painted the petroglyphs with my flashlight while the shutter was open taking the exposure.
The Volcanic Tablelands is a great place to spend the night - there's little light pollution (mostly coming from Bishop) so you'll always have the starts to gaze on.
