The amazing light of the most modest flowers
A friend has an amazing collection of rare plants. Many people come to his house to see them. Next to those plants he has others, because he likes them. They are common little plants that can be found in any nursery. I dared to ask him why he occupied part of his incredible garden with such common plants, and this was his answer: he did not consider his exotic plants better or worse than the others. They all, he told me, did the most amazing thing plants could do: produce oxygen, process carbon dioxide... and brighten up life.
Through him I learned a lot about having plants. He gave me, by the way, the first tomatoes I ever planted.
Loving all plants was his legacy to me. To appreciate each one in its own corner of the earth. Seeing the world from another frontier.

Un amigo tiene una asombrosa colección de plantas raras. Mucha gente va a su casa a verlas. Junto a esas plantas tiene otras, porque sí, porque le gustan. Son plantitas comunes que se pueden hallar en cualquier vivero. Me atreví a preguntarle por qué ocupaba parte de su increíble jardín con plantas tan comunes, y esta fue su respuesta: no consideraba sus plantas exóticas mejores o peores que las demás. Todas, me dijo, hacían lo más asombroso que podían hacer las plantas: producir oxígeno, procesar dióxido de carbono... y alegrar la vida.
A través de él aprendí mucho sobre tener plantas. Me regaló, por cierto, los primeros tomates que sembré en mi vida.
Amar a todas las plantas fue su legado para mí. Apreciar a cada una en su rincón de la tierra. Ver el mundo desde otra frontera.
Flores pequeñas, pertinaces, que crecen entre las grietas...

How much amazing life overflows from the most unexpected places! Grateful vegetation survives where we deposit our slime. There is a great lesson there, but there is also danger. Life has limits to withstand the spoil.

Una cayena rosada florece con hermosa luz. Hay una sencilla gallardía en esta flor, si se me permite describirla con este oxímoron. Se alza con elegancia colorida detrás de un edificio, donde nadie la ve, como no sean ojos muy curiosos. De alguna manera, este gesto fortuito de la reproducción natural testimonia el premio del acto de amor de una mirada.
And yet, there they are, the small and modest weeds. There they continue to bloom with no one to care for them, with no one to nurture them.
A pink cayenne blooms in beautiful light. There is a simple gallantry in this flower, if I may describe it with this oxymoron. It rises with colorful elegance behind a building, where no one sees it, other than very curious eyes. Somehow, this fortuitous gesture of natural reproduction testifies to the reward of the loving act of a glance.

Es la primera vez que participo en una iniciativa de esta comunidad. Agradezco la oportunidad, pues hay mucho del mundo natural que amo y quiero explorar. Es muy bueno saber que hay mucha gente haciendo lo mismo.
