Well the series against the Brewers was pretty humbling that's for sure. After Jacob Misiorowski dominated the Phillies on Friday, the Phillies bounced back Saturday by scoring 9 runs and escaping with a 9-8 victory. Aaron Nola was poor on the mound as usual but the fellas managed to get it done. They held several sizeable leads and almost choked, but ultimately managed to hold on. Edmundo Sosa hit his fourth homer, and J.T. Realmuto also hit his fourth.
Yesterday was tough to watch once again as Cristopher Sánchez had his first rough outing since April 23rd. I suppose it was bound to happen at some point. This likely hinders his Cy Young chances for the moment but, if he can manage to make sure this stays as an isolated performance, he could certainly keep himself alive in the race. He pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, so it wasn't catastrophic but, not great.
The Phillies offense was pretty catastrophic yesterday though as Kyle Harrison, starting pitcher for the Brewers, largely shut down the Phillies as he tossed a gem. It wasn't as bad as Friday for the Phillies, but it wasn't much better really. Another shutout loss and so the Phillies lose the series.
Today the Phillies return home after a decent lengthed road trip and face a familiar, yet improved NL East foe in the Miami Marlins. After two straight losing seasons the Marlins are currently .500 fairly deep into the season. I'm sure they'll want to make a mild statement by playing well against the Phillies.
Zack Wheeler takes the mound, it would be nice to see him pitch well as the Phillies haven't done so in a bit.
