Well the A's certainly exceeded my expectations against one of the best teams in baseball in the Brewers. If it wasn't for one of the greatest, most chaotic baseball games ever on Monday, a game in which the A's lost 15-14, the A's almost could have swept the Brewers. But the Brewers also almost swept the A's soooo that's basically baseball for ya!
On Wednesday, the Brewers took a pretty early 3-0 lead and held it until the 6th inning. That's when Alika Williams got the A's on the board with a solo shot, his first of his MLB CAREER, to cut it to 3-1. This was only a day after Henry Bolte's first career homer. The next inning Carlos Cortes hit a solo shot of his own, his 6th of the year, to bring the A's within just one run! Still in the seventh inning, after a Zack Gelof double, Lawrence Butler hit a super clutch homer, his 4th on the season, to give the A's a 4-3 lead. The A's would then go on to win by that score. Butler is having a pretty tough season and so I'm definitely happy for him to have a good moment like that. Speaking on how close the series was again, the total score of the series was 25-23 in favor of the A's. Definitely super competitive!
Today the A's face the Rockies. The Rockies are generally seen as one of the worst teams in baseball and it's hard to disagree really. They haven't won 70+ games since 2021. Excluding the shortened 2020 season, the Rockies have averaged about a 63-99 record per season starting in 2019. Last season they won just 43 games. BUT this season the Rockies are 26-43. That is still pretty bad but it seems they'll at least improve upon last year. Also, the A's are only 33-35 themselves so it's certainly not a night and day difference between the two teams.
The A's play their final 2026 Las Vegas series against this Rockies team. The Rockies are used to playing at elevation so, maybe this will be another high scoring situation, we shall see. A lot of people clown the Vegas stadium but eh, it's fun to me. The fence does go back as far as 415 so I'm not sure what the fuss is really about. The foul territory is unfortunate as well but I mean the A's are in the midst of a relocation, I don't know what people want. They just love to complain I guess.
I'm looking forward to seeing A's rookie starting pitcher Gage Jump perform again! He's been looking superb! I know it's just been three starts but, Jump is already looking significantly better than Phillies rookie starting pitcher Andrew Painter. Just goes to show how exciting it is to potentially have found a good young pitcher. It's not as common as people think! Let's hope Jump can continue his great trajectory.
But anyway, as I eluded to in my Phillies post, I am massively, down in the dumps of life. It's actually not a good time, but everyone has their struggles! I'll just keep rolling with the punches I guess. Thank God for baseball!
