Well the A's have had a flair for the dramatic lately. Many of their games lately have been back and forth affairs. They've been losing by several runs in each of their past three games and have come out on top every time. They just never give up! It really shows how they have a strong mentality. They took an early lead yesterday before the Rockies took a 4-2 lead later, but the fellas kept battling and secured the win in the end.
Nick Kurtz continues to be a star as he's now homered five times in the past five games after he hit his 16th yesterday. Shea Langeliers also hit his 18th. Lawrence Butler is also showing some life at the plate and at right field.
Gage Jump had an acceptable start for the most part. It was only his fourth start of his MLB career so of course I am not about to be too critical yet. So far he's had two ok starts and two really good starts so overall I'm still pretty optimistic about what I see from him.
Today a familiar face gets a spot start for the A's in Joey Estes. Estes has had a bit of an odd career I'd say as he has made his living on the fringes of high minors to being a low level MLB player. He appeared in 25 games for the A's in 2024, which included 24 starts. So he was in the rotation for the bulk of that season. But in 2023 and 2025 he only appeared in 5 games total, making 4 starts. Now it's 2026 and with the A's rotation dealing with injuries and Kade Morris struggling big time in his debut, they're giving Estes an opportunity here.
It's not very likely that Estes will get an extended look beyond today but you never know I guess. He could always blow everyone's mind tonight and make people reconsider. Nevertheless, I'm always intrigued by players like Estes. It makes you think about life and how we all should make the most of our opportunities and try to be grateful when they come. For all Estes knows, this may be his final shot, his final appearance, in the MLB. Hopefully he tries his best, and perhaps he tries to enjoy it. I'm hoping he does well of course! He's still only 24.
Let's see if the A's can make it four straight! Lots to keep track of tonight as the Phillies play and it's NBA Finals Game 5! It's currently a close game in the third quarter between the Knicks and Spurs.
But anyway...
