I'm currently working as a part - time teacher in one school in my country. As an academic, it is imperative for me to teach since I studied education. Teaching like any other professional job is so tasking that the activities the teacher engaged in doesn't end just in four walls of the classroom as many may think. For instance a teacher needs to read, study and understand what has been read in order to impact the pupils or student he or she is teaching.
I don't know if this is applicable to other nations of the world. But here in my country, Nigeria. Teachers not treating well in term of salary, they receive less than any of the professional job like health workers who receive higher salary and many more that I could not mention. This as actually affected educational system in my country which made only few to be interested in studying education.
If the educational system of any given nation is debilitated then there won't be improvements in man power and quality of personnel who work in the industrial which will amount to no development at all.
Today I was privilege to attend the P.T.A meeting, as usual, it is an avenue for teacher and parent to express their mind on matter that might be bothering them as well as to mastermind on way forward, such as improvement in the system and the facilities in the school. I was dumbfounded when I learnt that it was only few of the student that paid their school fees which their parents know that without it there could only be little to be done if not nothing at all. Though, the parent did promise to do something about it but I do think government and stakeholders should see teacher as small god by respecting them and giving them as other professional job out there.
For the aforementioned reasons. Only few are ready to take up teaching job and those that are committed to the job are not being motivated so they are frustrated to give their best.
Teachers are born and not made, I know that only few can relate.
