I do hear people calling Teaching; a noble profession. Perhaps, noble things are written about teacher in books... But I believed that it remained in the books, not in reality.
The educational system in my nation,Nigeria, is nothing to write home about.
Those who are in defense(soldiers take for instance) get a lot of respect and amenities like a home for living, travelling allowance, medical facilities, free food etc. And they get all these because they protect our country.
And what about those who educate the country? Don't they have a right to any respect or amenities?
Take multinational companies for example. They do everything possible fur the comfort of their workers. Even if u join a restaurants, their starting salary is as high as a teacher salary after 30 years of service. And I challenge you none of them is as educated as teacher who has being serving his country .The only difference is the profession. The company vehicle picks them up and drop's them home. But teachers don't even get concessions in cars or buses.
I heard someone saying teachers get respect. Respect?in our country, only those with a lots of money, power get respect. Politicians get respect, actor and actresses, footballers, music artiste, comedians etc. They are made chief guests and called to the platform to chairman an occasion. Let me ask you, Have you heard of a teacher being a celebrity and he was invited to inaugurate something? Have you seen a teacher arriving in latest car? No way! But wearing faded shirt and trouser....walking on foot with outdated shoes and holding umbrella in hands. That's is the image of a teacher, And its true, compared to a teachers salary, they barely manage to make ends meet. Many of them are living from hand to mouth.
