In response to Hive Learner Week 71 Edition 01: What was your dream occupation as a kid? Are you doing it now? If now, why? Please share your story with us.

My Dream Occupation
My story, or journey, is such a funny one. Grab a seat while I take you through my journey of who I wanted to become versus who I became today.

While I was growing up, I have always wanted to be an accountant in the sense that I loved anything regarding banks When I was growing up, when my dad took me to the bank to carry out his transaction, he said I'm always carried away looking at everyone at the counter, even forgetting I came with him, so when he's done with his transaction, I always refuse to leave the bank, to the point where I would cry bitterly until one of those bankers engaged me and gave me bank souvenirs before I would leave with him. I never knew I was that naughty back then.

During my secondary school days, I became the best student in accounting as a subject, and then I didn't struggle to pass it; I just knew everything about accounting, which also helped me with my mathematics.

My Experience
When my senior work result came out, I failed my math but got an A1 in my account, so because of this, I couldn't process my studies at a higher institution. I made another attempt with the same result and failed again. My father was angry at me. I explained to him that I didn't understand what was going on. He said he wouldn't enroll me again.

However, I stayed back home for 5 years trying to get my secondary school leaving certificate, but it was futile, and no higher institution would give me accounting as a course without mathematics. This was a big hindrance for me, and I began to give up on that dream.
I stopped applying to universities because I don't have mathematics.

One fateful day, one of my cousins who was in school informed my parents about the opening in her school. She said I should just get the form and write their exam I told her my predicament She said I can sit for the Waec again before the form result comes out; my Waec result should be out by then and I will just use it, I just thought of the negative side of all this, but I still gave it a try

Lo and behold, the university granted me admission but not accounting. When I told my cousin, she told me not to worry because there is someone who will help me change my course and that I should make sure I pass that WAEC. When we began the processing and verification, the person who wanted to assist requested the result.

During all this drama, one of the people around me advised me that I should just do a course that wouldn't require math, and I asked and was given two options: Philosophy and History. Trust me, I don't like any of it. After plenty of analysis, I picked history, and they began the processing for me. You know what? I hate to write long essays or read novels. Remember, an accountant deals with figures, and I asked myself, How will I survive this?

God was faithful I finished well with a good result, and I learned that whatever you put your mind to, you will do it. but it was not easy What was driving me then was that I didn't want to have carryover. I studied to pass but I don't even believe in myself that I will use my degree to work except I want to be a teacher and that is not what I wanted

So that was how I turned from being an accountant to a historian. So funny, right? I still did not stop there. I struggled after school and NYSC, looking for a job as a historian, and turned to find myself in the tech world, which I have zero knowledge about or what is happening there. I found it interesting, and I have always loved to be in a cooperative world, so I began to learn, and I am still learning.

Conclusively, that was how my dream was killed, and right now I don't think I still want to pursue that dream because the world is revolving now and it's not about what we study in school; it's about the skills we have that can make us relevant and outstanding.

Thank you for visualizing the journey with me through my writing
