Do you know the value of time?
How precious is time to you?
Do you have regrets when you realise you have lost time and did not hit your target for the day, week, month or year?
What we invest our time into determines how much value our time has. The value of our time is based on ones achievements and accomplishments. We have 24 hours in a day, once we fail to make maximal use of it, we would never be able to recapture it. Often times, lost money can be regained – in multiple folds.
Most successful footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who are both 5 times Ballon d'Or winners got to the peak of their careers by devoting time to training - more training, new skills. Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Wizkid got the rewards of his hard work and good time management by making history as he became the first African artist to win “Best International Act” at the MOBO Awards held recently. Likewise, sitting in front of my computer, writing this post is a form of accomplishment. I have learnt new things in the course of writing this piece because it is not possible to write without reading. What do you do with your time?
Recently, it is discovered that the most used and emphasised word in English Language is “time”. The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, in one of the books he co-authored with Robert Kiyosaki titled WHY WE WANT YOU TO BE RICH tried to juxtapose the most valuable between time and money. He said,
“Someone once explained life as a credit card that’s given to us at birth – minus the expiration date. The time we have on that card becomes the big question, not the money. The properties of time have always been of great interest to physicists and scientists. Time is measured by numbers. Which brings us to math. Which brings us to money. But if you run out of time, all the money in the world won’t change that situation.”
Benjamin Franklin in his Advice to a Young Tradesman said “Remember that time is money. We would spend time judiciously and intelligently if we perceive it as money. Let’s say for instance, if wasting 30 minutes of your time meant you would lose 1000SBD, would you be more aware of how those times were spent?
Get out of your comfort zone. It's much easier to remain within the confines of where you feel relaxed and free from constraint than it is to face the fear of venturing beyond them. Some ways of investing your time could include reading books on your area of interest (crime, romance, sports, motivation etc.), watching a movie or documentary, attend seminars, conferences, visit gyms, and even sleep.
How do you spend your time? In the 24 hours of a day, how many hours do you spend working, commuting, eating, sleeping, relaxing, getting educated, and so on. Be careful of your time and learn to invest it – thoughtfully.
