Manchester United move on the the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Reading.
Ready played a decent game but lacked the finishing to put things away. United however were more clinical in front of goal, as they eased passed their opponents.
Reading dominated the ball possession early in the game with some neat passing, but possession doesn't tell the whole story as United were quick on the break, creating good chances and they looked dangerous.
A bit of confusion in the 20th minute, as Fred finished off a ball from Mata but Fred looked to be offside. The VAR is consulted to analyze the drama and it was decided that Mata was fouled as he played the ball over to Fred.
Mata takes the penalty after a two minute wait for VAR, burying it in the bottom right corner of the net, the keeper had no chance.
Reading aren't taking the goal lying down, as a number of good chances are created by both sides.
Reading keep dominating the ball possession but are unable to really make use of it.
Just as Reading were starting to look threatening, Lukaku doubles United's lead. Lukaku gets put through by Sanchez, then goes around the keeper and slots the ball into the empty net.
Reading have been playing very well but United are just more clinical in front of goal, putting them 2 up at half time.
Reading continue the second half in the same fashion, dominating more than 60% of ball possession but they just can't seem to catch a break.
Reading send players forward in the final minutes, in hope of grabbing a goal but United are having none of it.
Rashford gets one on one with the keeper in the 89th minute, but over hits the ball when trying to go round the keeper, then slips while trying to get to it sending it out for a goal kick. The player laughs at his mistake.
After a save from Jaakkola, the game finally ends with United claiming a routine win over Reading.
Reading had put the pressure on United but the home team just sat back and absorbed it, with Reading having more attempts on goal but United making the most of the chances they got.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gotten his fifth consecutive win a caretaker manager, which is an impressive feat. Manchester United still looks like a work in progress and they will need to step up their game as they face Spurs next week.
