Liverpool suffered a 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup. Wolves knocking out the reds after grabbing a well deserved win.
Liverpool didn't have a great start to the match, losing Dejan Lovren to injury just 3 minutes after the start of the match. Ki-Jana Hoever comes on for Lovren, Hoever being the youngest Liverpool player to appear in the FA Cup, at just 16 years.
The Liverpool youngsters are looking good in the first half. The Liverpool squad having some major changes in the lineup. They manage to hold a strong defence for most of the half and seem to be dominating possession.
Most of the first half was boring, with both sides offering little to report on. All we could hope is that the tempo of the game increased.
Wolves finally livened things up,as they get the first goal of the game in the 37th minute. Milner loses the ball in the midfield and Wolves start a quick counter attack, Raul Jimenez bursting towards goal, taking time to find the perfect spot before drilling a low ball past Mignolet.
Wolves go into the second half with a 1 goal lead and Jimenez almost doubled it before the break, but was denied by the Liverpool defence repeatedly.
Liverpool show an increase in performance at the start of the second period, and they find a way to level the game early in the half. A ball from Milner gets blocked and it rebounds to Divock Origi at the edge of the box, Origi sending a fine ball past the keeper and into the net.
Wolves regain their lead 4 minutes later, with an absolutely wonderful shot from Ruben Neves. Neves picking up the ball outside the box, and blasting a rocket towards goal from 25 yards out, the ball flying straight past the keeper and bouncing before going in.
Liverpool are unlucky not to level things in the 68th minute, after a wonderful free kick from Shaqiri. Shaqiri playing a beautiful free kick that curls and dips on it's journey, but he ends up being denied by the woodwork, as the ball hits the inside of the post and spins out for a goal kick. Replay shows that the keeper managed to get a tiny touch on the ball, what a save.
Salah and Firmino are brought on for Liverpool in an attempt to salvage the game, but no joy. Wolves close down the game holding on to their 1 goal lead.
With the win, Wolves move on to the fourth round of the FA Cup, with Liverpool eliminated after suffering another defeat, after their loss to City.
