Sounds like we almost have similar circumstances but my family's fuck up started from the great great grandparents edition where both sides of the family had wealthy beginnings. I traced back my family roots and found we are relatives with the well off names in the province but somehow my great great grandfather thought gambling addiction was a phase and decided to bet on several land titles.

My great grandparents that had a better life but didn't know how to manage their wealth so the knowledge of not knowing money management was passed down to my grandparents, by this time wealth was already diluted and they struggled as a regular middle class much like today. My parents didn't learn anything and now I'm just like you, tasked to carry on the weight of living and the burden of knowing the extent of how fucked I am. It's one of the reasons why I didn't entertain marriage, it's not that I don't want intimacy but the financial burden of accommodating another member and their financial woes as a family is another story within an Asian country. Filial piety can be a bitch.
