If you stare at the screen long and get overstimulated, the brain tries to shutdown some parts of the heavy executive decision making like fact checking, or being aware, to question what you're seeing as it's less straining to the mind to just accept whatever is shown and told. This is how people unknowingly turn their brains to being suggestible and just take what is shown as is for now.

Yung mga visual effects ng pantasya, alam naman natin fake but to immerse ourselves sa story we just let some parts of it go and don't question the minor details, do this longer and you just stop bothering and take things as is. It has a purpose naman, if you keep asking and be critical, you never get to enjoy the fantasy genre as entertainment. Now think of how this small concept applies to mass media where information that is true gets mixed up with lies until it's hard to tell some bits apart.
