Youtube is a video sharing site and was started by three former Paypal employees. In 2005 Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion.
Google generates revenue by advertising on the videos with about 45% going to Google and 55% going to the creator.
Everything was going just swell and there are millions of videos on YouTube.
Then the great disconnect started. It is my belief that it started around the same time as the SJW movements started.
Then came the Fake News phenomenon that was brought to our attention by President Trump (among others).
Fake News has been going on for decades only now it has a name. Fake News is also known as "Yellow Journalism", the spread of propaganda.
Here is how Wikipedia defines it:
Fake news is written and published with the intent to mislead in order to gain financially or politically, often with sensationalist, exaggerated, or patently false headlines that grab attention.[2][3] Intentionally misleading and deceptive fake news is different from obvious satire or parody which is intended to humor rather than mislead its audience. Next we have the people that direct the product. In this case the CEO's of YouTube and Google. These people have become totally Politically Correct and in their quest not to offend anyone they have offended yours and my freedom of speech.
Now, I am not saying I want to see certain things that are on YouTube, but that does not mean that I want censorship either!
This is a slippery slope to take.
The thing that made You Tube great was its openness.
However, somewhere in the ivory towers, a decision was made to start censoring the content.
How they did this was by implementing transcripts of the videos and implementing an algorithm to look for certain content that they did not want published. If a video was found that fit their criteria it was blocked , at worse, or "demonetized".
This censorship severely limited creators of content from their livelihoods and at the same time accomplished You Tubes goals.
Remember PewDiePie? Probably the most highest earning You Tuber ever!
He was labelled a racist and anti Semitic and was slowly demonetized as well as being ostracized by You Tube and the media.
As he stated:
"I've made some jokes that people don't like. And you know what? If people don't like my jokes, I fully respect that. I fully understand that. I acknowledge that I took things too far, and that's something I definitely will keep in mind moving forward, but the reaction and the outrage has been nothing but insanity."
"Nothing but Insanity."
So here is one of You Tubes biggest money makers and they shoot themselves in the foot because of political correctness.
Whether you like him or not should be your choice to make, not You Tubes.
That is CENSORSHIP folks!
This is but one reason that You Tube is destined to fail and probably the biggest reason.
Slowly but surely our rights of free speech are being taken away.
Sadly it is not just You Tube. You can see this phenomena happening everywhere.
