Hace dos o tres años, en camino tomar el transporte para llegar a la oficina vi una gata en los jardines de un preescolar, no le preste mucha atención en ese momento, pero me di cuenta que ella y otros gatos hacían vida en el lugar, un día no la vi y le pregunté al personal de seguridad por la gata y me indicaron que se encontraba escondida porque daría a luz.

Al día siguiente pasé y la vi afuera muy tranquila, cosa que me hizo ruido ya que ellas no suelen alejarse mucho, ni por periodos largos de tiempo cuando tienen crías, me le acerque y le dije: ¿que haces afuera gorda y tus bebés?, a lo que respondió uno de los integrantes del personal de seguridad, "ella suele comerse a sus hijos", yo quedé impactada. Ya que desconocía que a veces las gatas hacen eso. Así que investigué las razones, como ya pueden suponer sobre este tema es la publicación de hoy, las razones por las cuales una gata puede devorar a sus crías.

Entre los motivos por los cuales las gatas pueden devorar a sus crías están:

1️⃣ La gata no tiene instinto materno. Es posible que una gata carezca de instinto maternal y por ello no tiene el mas mínino interés en cuidar a las crías o no tiene ni idea de como hacerlo, aquí pasará una de dos cosas los abandonará o se los comerá.

2️⃣ Estrés. En varias publicaciónes les he mencionado como el estrés afecta a los gatos, en el caso de la gatas en estado de gestación un hogar donde los humanos caminen de un lado al otro a cada momento, cambios bruscos, ruidos, o donde la gata no pueda estar tranquila ya sea porque hay niños y la quieren tocar a ella o las crías, la presencia de algún otro animal que ella pueda considerar un riesgo o peligro, exceso de cuidados, pueden ocasionar que la gata se estrese pensando que puede ocurrirle algo a ella o a sus crías y se los coma.

3️⃣ Bebés enfermos o débiles, las crias de cualquier especie pueden nacer enfermos, con deformaciónes, o deficiencias no perceptibles al ojo humano, pero sí al ojo, oído y olfato de la madre, para ella ese cachorro no sobrevivirá o puede contagiar a sus hermanos, así que, para ella es una opción lógica invertir su leche y cuidados en crías con mayor probabilidad de sobrevivir, así que las crias débiles o enfermas pueden ser devoradas por sus madres.

4️⃣ La gatita no reconoce a sus cachorros, esto puede ocurrir en los casos en los que las gatas son sometidas a cesarías o con cachorros manipulados en exceso por humanos.

5️⃣ Mastitis, es una inflamación de las mamas de la gata, causada por lo regular por una infección. Esto es muy doloroso y al amamantarse los cachorros aumentan el dolor que ella está experimentando, lo que puede llevar a que asocie a los gatitos con el dolor, entonces para ella al comérselos o abandonarlos piensa que esta acabando con quienes le causan el dolor.

Sin has sido testigo de un acontecimiento como éste me imagino que estás impresionado, pero en el mundo animal esto suele ocurrir, así que, lo primero es no pienses que tu gata no es mala, ni diabólica, si estás presente en momento en el que esto comience a ocurrir, no la regañes, mantén la calma, no la desprecies o apartes de tu vida, para ella es algo natural y si deseas salvar a las crias, debes quitárselas a tu gata y atenderlos tu.

Para evitar que esto pueda ocurrir de nuevo puedes primero repasar los acontecimientos a ver si alguna de las causas anteriores llevo a tu gata a devorar a las crias y la otra opción es esterilizarla.

Two or three years ago, on the way to take the transportation to get to the office I saw a cat in the gardens of a preschool, I did not pay much attention to her at that time, but I realized that she and other cats were living in the place, one day I did not see her and asked the security staff about the cat and they indicated that she was hiding because she would give birth.

The next day I passed by and saw her outside very quietly, which made me feel very excited since they don't usually go very far away, not even for long periods of time when they have babies. I approached her and said: "What are you doing outside, fatso and your babies?" To which one of the security personnel replied, "She usually eats her babies", and I was shocked. I didn't know that sometimes cats do that. So I researched the reasons, as you can guess from today's publication, why a cat can eat her babies.

Among the reasons why cats can devour their young are

1️⃣ The cat has no maternal instinct. It is possible that a female cat lacks maternal instinct and therefore she has no interest in taking care of her offspring or has no idea how to do it, here one of two things will happen: she will abandon them or she will eat them.

2️⃣ Stress. In several publications I have mentioned how stress affects cats, in the case of pregnant cats a home where humans walk from one side to the other at every moment, sudden changes, noises, or where the cat can not be quiet either because there are children and want to touch her or her offspring, the presence of some other animal that she may consider a risk or danger, excessive care, can cause the cat to stress thinking that something may happen to her or her offspring and eat them.

3️⃣ Sick or weak babies, the kittens of any species can be born sick, with deformities or deficiencies not perceptible to the human eye, but they can be seen, heard and smelled by the mother, for her that kittens will not survive or can infect their siblings, so, for her it is a logical choice to invest her milk and care in kittens with a higher probability of survival, so weak or sick kittens can be devoured by their mothers.

4️⃣ The kitten does not recognize her kittens, this can happen in cases where cats are subjected to cesarean sections or with kittens handled excessively by humans.

5️⃣ Mastitis, is an inflammation of the cat's breasts, usually caused by an infection. This is very painful and by nursing the kittens it increases the pain she is experiencing, which can lead to her associating the kittens with the pain, so for her to eat them or leave them she thinks she is killing the ones causing the pain.

If you have not been a witness of an event like this I imagine you are impressed, but in the animal world this usually happens, so, the first thing is not to think that your cat is not bad, nor diabolic, if you are present at the moment this starts to happen, don't scold her, keep calm, don't despise her or take her out of your life, for her it is something natural and if you want to save the kittens, you must take them away from your cat and take care of them yourself.

To prevent this from happening again you can first review the events to see if any of the previous causes led your cat to devour the kittens and the other option is to spay or neuter her.
