Supe de la manera mas fuerte y de primera mano lo que es un absceso en gatos cuando en mayo de 2018 tuve que dejar hospitalizado a Cristopher debido a la fuerte infecci贸n que le causo un absceso que se form贸 en una de sus patas delanteras.
No era la primera vez que Cristopher ten铆a un absceso, el era muy territorial y sol铆a pelear con los gatos de una vecina y ya se le hab铆a atendido por uno en la cara, pero esta vez su pata se inflam贸 tanto que comenz贸 a cojear y su 谩nimo decay贸 notablemente, al comienzo cre铆 que se trataba de una factura o alguna otra cosa ya que no se le ve铆a ning煤na herida en la pata.
Era domingo, c贸mo suele ocurrir con muchas emergenc铆as, que se presentan muy tarde en la noche, los fines de semana y/o cuando no tenemos un centavo, pero recurr铆 a las redes sociales donde sub铆 un video de como est谩 respirando el m铆nino y gracias a Dios alguien acudi贸 a mi llamado y logre llevarlo a la cl铆nica, all谩 se logr贸 dar con el sitio donde se encontraba el absceso ya maduro del cual sali贸 un pus de color verde y muy f茅tido 馃ぎ que nos dejo a todos realmente asqueados.
Como esta historia hay cualquier cantidad gatos con abscesos en diferentes zonas de sus cuerpo, pero hablemos de las causas y tratamientos para este tipo de afecci贸n tan com煤n en gatos.
驴Qu茅 es un absceso?
Es una inflamaci贸n bacteriana de la piel. Es una acumulaci贸n de pus en las capas de la piel y por lo regular es el resultado de una herida causada por la mordida de otro gato frecuentemente durante una pelea.
Por lo regular un absceso luce como lo har铆a un gran barro en la cara de un adolescente, es decir como un bulto, que primero luce rojo y luego cuando madura tiene pus y causa dolor en la zona afectada.
驴C贸mo se diagnostica?
La manera mas f谩cil de diagnosticar un absceso es por la inflamaci贸n, calor y el dolor.
驴C贸mo se trata un absceso?
馃樋 Drenaje, a veces los abscesos se abren o vulgarmente hablando se revientan solos, en otras esto no ocurre y hay que llevar al minino al veterinario donde se Abrir谩 el absceso y se drenara, en ocaciones debe ser drenado durante varios d铆as, donde tambi茅n se tendr谩 que desinfectar la zona para evitar en la medida de lo posible que el pus reaparezca.
馃樋 Antibi贸ticos, al ser una infecci贸n bacteriana, el veterinario le recetara al gato alg煤n antibi贸tico con el prop贸sito de eliminar la infecci贸n.
馃樋 Cultivo, en algunas ocaciones la infracci贸n se resiste y dura muchos mas d铆as de lo esperado, en casos como estos es muy probable que el veterinario tome una muestra y decida que lo mas prudente es realizar un cultivo.
Es muy importante que ante la presencia de un posible absceso lleves a tu gato al veterinario, ya que que ante el dolor tu gato puede tornarse agresivo y el veterinario como profesional en compa帽铆a de su equipo es el adecuado para manipular a tu m铆nino, en el caso de Cristopher tuvo que ser anestesiado para poder ser atendido.

What is an abscess?
An abscess is a bacterial inflammation of the skin. An abscess is a collection of pus in the layers of the skin and is usually the result of an injury caused by another cat's bite, often during a fight.

馃樋 Antibiotics, as it is a bacterial infection, the veterinarian will prescribe the cat some antibiotics with the purpose of eliminating the infection.
馃樋 Culture, in some occasions the infraction resists and lasts many more days than expected, in cases like these it is very probable that the veterinarian takes a sample and decides that the most prudent thing is to carry out a culture.
It is very important that you take your cat to the vet in case of an abscess, because your cat can become aggressive and the vet as a professional with his team is the right one to handle your cat, in Cristopher's case he had to be anesthetized to be treated.
