It's the 1st of May! The air's a little lighter, the sun's a little brighter. And if the Beltane Festival is anything to go by, this promises to be THE month of growth, renewal and endless possibilities.
Having recently joined the @eds-vote curation trail, and dedicated some savings to EDSD, I feel the beginnings of change. The last SSC post notes that "the best way to build wealth is to save small amounts regularly." As we kick off May, I'm going to take that nugget of wisdom and run with it - a little saving today for a lot of smiling tomorrow!
Remember for success - Start Small, Start Today
So, without further ado:
On the 17th of April I had 179.457 HP and 13.363 HIVE in the wallet. In terms of my SSC objectives... my last total was 50.129 HBD and 3.000 EDSD. Now my wallet indicates that I have 214.789 HP and 22.557 HIVE. A significant jump, by all accounts! And as for my primary and secondary goals...
| Objective | Project | Goal | 04.24 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary | HBD | 100 | 54.924 |
| Secondary | EDSD | 100 | 6.000 |
I'm thrilled with this progress. We're getting there!
As for this week's little ponder - which I seem to provide within every SCC post... because savings is not just about the numbers in your bank account; it's about the journey you're on.
It's evident, particularly in recent weeks, that a colleague of mine struggles to maintain a boundary between her personal and professional life. Having faced significant personal traumas, she has dedicated the past thirty years to her work, refining her focus to the point of complete immersion. She approaches her job with utmost seriousness, prioritising it over her own well-being by sacrificing personal time to catch up on projects. In doing so, she sets a high standard for dedication and may inadvertently judge others who don't match her level of commitment.
It's made me think... about what my purpose is. A year ago I would have looked at this colleague and admired her for her martyr complex. Now, I see the imbalance. I've never been wholly dependent on finances and savings... unlike many people in this world, I don't believe your worth is defined by the size of your bank account - but for many years I elevated work to a pedestal. Like this colleague, I used to place exaggerated importance on my career. A "career-centric mindset," prioritising my work above other aspects of life. Now, I believe it's far more important that you have richness of character, that you develop depth in your relationships, and you find things that inspire passion - things that bring you to life... and things that you bring to life. While financial stability is important, it's not the sole measure of success or happiness.
What do you think about this? Do share your thoughts below!
I don't know what I can do to help my colleague. I think she won't change, but she certainly needs a friend. Perhaps by offering a listening ear and showing understanding, I can provide her with the support and companionship she needs. It's certainly made me refine what it is that I am looking for in life.
Anyway, with this in mind I dipped into my savings pot and purchased a train ticket West. I leave on Friday - just for the weekend! Nothing too crazy... well, perhaps a little. Having spent the last few days getting the necessary equipment and packing, I believe I am now fully prepared for this little flight... Even made countless checklists and printed maps. (Does anyone else here tend to over-prepare?)
I'm curious to see how I manage this coming adventure alone... The route came recommended by a similarly outdoorsy colleague and his partner - a "must do" before I leave Scotland in July.
Updates to come!
P.S. For those who are interested in joining, let me introduce you to the "Saturday Saver's Club": A delightful weekly gathering of individuals across the Blockchain, with the intention of uplifting each other in our savings endeavours.
