Here is the post I found on the Bitshares / openledger.io news section, which made me feel SO much better when I found the part that verified that yes indeed this is just a TEMPORARY freeze so that the EOSdac Airdrop can happen, and this is very customary and NORMAL for an exchange to freeze assets during a hardfork and Airdrop.

We will suspend all the EOS (OPEN.EOS) transactions an hour prior to the official start time of the airdrop on April 15, 2018, 00:00:00 UTC. It means that OpenLedger DEX users will not be able to deposit, withdraw, buy or sell EOS (OPEN.EOS) tokens after this time. Approximate time of reopening deposits, withdrawals, trades and other operations with EOS is April 15, 2018, 07.00 UTC.

So there you go! Just keep stacking your Bitshares until tomorrow and then you can go ahead and keep buying more open.EOS and don't worry if you missed the airdrop. There will be PLENTY more and you can find them all here https://www.airdropsforeos.com
