Yup! They arrived about a week or more ago,
and I'm late posting these...
This is also my inaugural Feathered Friends post! Yayyyyyyyyy!!
Thank you for inviting me, @barbara-orenya... 馃榾
And hi (or chirp! chirp!) to its founder, @melinda010100
I last posted about a pair of birdies who set up home just outside my apartment kitchen, in the utility area on a water pipe close to the ceiling...
In fact, so close - about a foot or so from the ceiling - that I couldn't get a good enough angle to peek into the nest from a decent distance so as not to disturb the birdies... even after climbing up a stepladder...
So, I had to patiently wait for some action from the babies (i.e. forego seeing the eggs...) Action happened sometime on the 9th June, when I could hear very faint chirps... Thought I was dreaming, or hearing some faraway birdies.
On the 10th - confirmed! The chirps were stronger and definitely coming from MY nest! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
Oh, and contrary to my previous post, I have further deduced that these are probably Pacific Swallows instead of Welcome Sparrows who are close cousins!
Enough chatter, let's go look at the birdies! 馃惀馃悿
Two!
Yes, there are two babies...
Aren't they adorable.... despite being all mouth! 馃槃
You can see a bit of fluff on the top of their heads
No feathers yet, naked skin!
This is how they look when calling for their mum and dad,
...or food!
That's one of the parents...
...with FOOD!
Parent usually lands on the side of the nest...
Then feeds them...
Watches over them a lil...
Then sometimes snuggles down into the nest with the babies
That's when they quieten down a lil
What are you looking at...!
Once I was trying to catch a video of the babies (see below)
then the adult comes back in the rain...
Poor mama (or papa) bird was all wet,
and had to puff up its feathers to dry off!
Whenever one of the adults flies back and catches me at the top of the stepladder, they normally fly back out and wait on a nearby ledge
A couple of times, I caught both parents sitting on the ledge
This one is giving me the eye already!
Okeyyy.... time to get off the ladder and back into the kitchen
so babies can get fed!
Back to the hungry babies!
They haven't opened their eyes yet
So they just blindly face any direction,
and squeeeeeal... errr, chirp, I mean!
After awhile, they tire down,
sink lower into the nest...
And actually close their beaks!
Doesn't it look like Daffy Duck a little.... 馃槀
And yesssss....
They suddenly pop back up again!
What big mouths you have...
Must be hunger pangs
Or me chirping to them to get them to pop up for a shot!
Guilty...!
And they get sleepy or tire down again...
One more chirp...
"Mamaaaaaaa.....!"
Papaaaaaaaaaa...???
And if you still haven't had enough of the babies...
You can check out this video
You need to turn up the volume up to hear their cries
Apologies for the 'noise' - that's the heavy rain you hear
And also you may hear me 'encouraging' them to come up out of the nest...
Yeahhh, baddd me!
Sorry, babes!
