I haven't been in the best headspace lately but been trying to push myself to do something, if even for the sake of not wasting claude tokens for nothing.
I may forget some things I've worked on and probably not mention everything, just going from the top of my head of what I recall.
Some improvements to scrobble.life, along with some needed front-end things such as more nested replies showing up on posts as well as voter info on posts, i.e. who voted for the post as you're all familiar with on most front-ends already. Thought it'd be a nice-have since we're also working on the next thing:
This one isn't public yet, but here's a preview:
I know we're all quite tired of the regular "algo" if you will, the one that only looks at rewards granted towards a post and based on post age to filter hot/trending, so I've added some new ways to discover posts along with the upcoming feature to allow anyone to nominate posts for our curation (more on that another time I guess). I think @lordbutterfly may have talked about this in his post yesterday that I still have open here in a tab and haven't gotten around to read yet and I know
@pharesim is working on an algo as well with his honeycomb project you should check out.
You do have the regular new/hot/trending here but then also some new ones in the Discovery tab, underrated, fresh, new authors, discussed and rising.
Underrated measures: engagement per hive - lots of interest, little payout
Fresh measures: brand-new posts nobody's found yet, to be more precise it's posts with less than 8 votes (these can be adjusted of course but the idea is to check if there's any posts worthy of rewards that may have been missed)
New Authors: posts from new users/small accounts, this one isn't the same as our @lovesniper initiative where we solely focus on the first post of a new user but more about users with a low reputation and ascending as well as newest users as a secondary filter
Discussed: purely about conversation volume, which naturally doesn't tell you everything since everyone and their mom are running bots these days tipping worthless tokens to each other
Rising: is more about momentum, fastest climbing payouts i.e. hive/hour earned
More can be created, these are mostly things Claude thought of itself along with some ideas I wanted implemented, if you have any suggestions feel free to type them in the comment section, such as for instance most downvoted posts first or most downvoted and discussed if you really wanna dive into drama.
The "You" tab is an on-site algo that tracks what you consume, vote on and comment based on the site usage alone, it skips checking on-chain transactions as to give users a fresh start on their personal "algo".
This one does things a bit differently, for instance it calculates weights based on your on-site actions. If you for instance open a post it gets a weight cause you were interested enough to check it out from the thumbnail/description. Bookmarking is quite simple and adds more weight so those authors will appear more often if you wanna save their posts for later reading. We also added a way to hide posts which naturally gives the author negative weight on your algo.
Weights affect both author and community slightly, if you're constantly hiding posts from a few authors in the same community, it'll stop showing that community altogether in your feed, for instance. I'd want these to be filterable eventually so users can pick and choose their settings themselves, etc.
The only on-chain thing it reads, especially early on, is who you follow as it needs a starting point. The more you use the site to "consume" the more your following feed weight fades.
Things it deliberately ignores to give you a "fresh start": votes, comments and reblogs as well as your curation nominations (the thing I'm gonna talk about another time) and activities from other pages on the site that aren't in the discover page.
Lastly, I've been working on one more thing I wanted to experiment with that I think we've had lacking in forever on hive and that is:
Now before you get your hopes up for free and easy rewards, there's going to be a huge load of parameters and restrictions in this. Naturally because people like to game things and cheat their way to easy rewards as we've seen over the years and continue to. If they know the exact parameters involved, i.e. what stats and things we care about and how point distribution works, they're going to create bots and scripts and hire homeless people to browse scrobble.life just to earn a few extra hive. Okay I'm exaggerating, but you get the point. This is something I won't be able to talk about in depth deliberately.
I still don't know where these rewards are going to come from however, maybe we'll do some default beneficiaries on posts in our own community for that if the community thinks it's a good idea, maybe we'll check other ways. It's going to take some time to balance and adjust this where I'd want it to be while checking that no abuse is occurring or someone who may have figured out how to "farm" it, but we may open it up for point gain testing in the near future to see how it'll distribute them based on activity for starters.
Let me know what you think about these additions and if you have any preferences you'd wanna see on there!
