When I started my journey on the old blockchain, I had exactly zero stake. I wrote some posts and hoped people would give me upvotes and comments. As you can imagine, my posts had a very small impact and very few readers. Like most newbies, I was wondering why the whales didn't give me upvotes. I was jealous of these hundred dollar posts in trending...
Learning things the hard way
It took me pretty long to understand that I wouldn't go anywhere and I needed to change something. I followed the idea from a post I read to actually write comments on other people's posts. My posts were still not much more visited but I started to know some people. I took the habit to follow the people that interacted with me and I regularly left comments on their posts. I upvoted their posts, even if my upvote was worth nothing. Often in return, I got them visiting my posts. At that point, my adventure on Hive started to be enjoyable.
When my friends power up, it's good for me!
Little by little, I started to understand all this stuff about Hive Power, voting, curation rewards, etc. Especially once I had about 200 Hive Power together, I saw some results. When I was powering up, my upvotes generated slightly higher votes for my friends but also higher curation rewards for me. The same happened however also when my friends powered up. I realized a single truth about Hive that I particularly like:
Whenever somebody powers up among my friends, we all win!
If Hivian A powers up 100 Hive, let's say he increases his voting power by 0.01 Hive (just a number thrown out like that). He has 10 votes per day and therefore he can give 0.1 Hive more value through his upvotes. 0.05 Hive will go to him and 0.05 to the friends he upvotes.
Now if A has a lot of friends, he will profit from all the power ups of them and at the same time, his friends will profit from his power ups. The bigger the community is that is dedicated to growing their accounts, the faster everybody will grow. The growth will be compounded with every power up.
Be happy when your friends grow their stake
On Hive we should have a different view when others are succeeding. We should be happy for everybody that can show successes on hive and who is in our community. The more people around you doing well, the better it is for you! So there shouldn't be any jealousy on Hive and we should help each other to accomplish stuff and grow!
Think far ahead and help the small accounts
If you were my friend on the old blockchain 61 months ago, my upvote would have been worth 0.000 Hive. I was probably not the most popular guy on the blockchain. Today, when I give a 100% upvote, it is worth around 0.60 HBD. What I want to say is that it might be worth to detect people who are dedicated, who invest a lot of time and effort into Hive. Today maybe they are small fishes but who knows how they develop in a couple of months? In the future, you could be happy that you were nice to the small fishes because then they give you nice upvotes!
