I have deep reservations about the wind turbines dominating the energy transition here in Germany and across Europe. While they do emit significantly less carbon dioxide than traditional fuels, when we carefully look at their complete lifecycle a different story is revealed. The intensive mining for rare earth materials, transport, the ongoing maintenance, and the difficult disposal of massive blades create a highly concerning ecological footprint.

It often feels like we are deceiving ourselves by treating them as a flawless solution. I think we currently lack a true and complete replacement for fossil fuels, and while nuclear energy is sometimes presented as an alternative, it carries its own significant complications that require careful consideration.
