From all the Easters that I lived/celebrated till date, this one is by far the worst of them all. Literally the unhappiest, most frustrating and grey Easter I have yet to experience. I know that almost the whole planet has already celebrated this holiday but for us, Romanians, and some few other Orthodox countries, it's always a week later that we get to party for Jesus.
I am not a religious person, although I can claim myself as one that has read quite a few spirituality related books, so I can't say that I am an atheist, or that I don't have or had any interest for esoteric topics. Being someone that is not the kind of getting mainstream with anything on earth I refused religion though, any sort of it, right from the beginning and have always tried to live my own sort of.
Holidays like, Easter, Christmas and others, although related to some biblical figures, for the majority of the people around the world, is more about good food, family gatherings, presents, fun and parties, and why not, drinking and dancing. Well... I haven't had anything of this sort today. Nothing...
I just woke up a few minutes ago, after an afternoon nap that lasted over an hour, and the first thought that I had was...what an awful Easter. All alone in an apartment, with no family members around, no friends to hang out with, and police running the streets expressing loud the government's request to stay inside, for our own protection and safety of course. Fuck them both!!!
It wasn't always like this, and I will say it loud and clear that EVERY SINGLE YEAR I have somehow celebrated Easter. With all the goodies that I mentioned above. The ones that I remember the best and feel like were the best were the ones of my childhood/teenage years. It was like everything was better back then and moreover, we didn't had social media to share anything. It was 100% organic experience.
Ever since I can remember, till I left to college, we always spent Easter at my grandma, in the country side. She lived about 100 km away from us and we used to drive there and stay for two-three days. Almost all of the food that was dedicated to this gathering was cooked and backed by her though. The best cakes that I ever ate were my grandma's.
It's like I still have the taste of the food in my mouth, and feel the fresh air from the yard. We used to eat outside in every Easter day, except the rainy ones, and every year, with no exception, she painted the eggs organically by boiling them in water with onion leaves, being somehow a healthier alternative, but also one that would leave paint on our hands.
That paint was always on our fingers after two or three days cracking them, and it would only go away once back home, into the so called civilized world. My grandma had three sisters and almost all of them had children, and they had children, hence I have quite a few cousins that I was meeting with back then.
Evenings we used to hang around at some of them, we used to have parties when we grew up for that, and it was lots of fun to spend Easter over there. It was even better than in my own town. After high school I got to move from one city to another and I kind of skipped Easter at my grandma's village, but still it was fun anywhere I was because I used to be a fun guy, and no matter how much money you have or even fame, it's always people around you that give color to your life, just so you know...
Now...who's to color anything during this pandemic? Everyone's inside scared by the government that supposedly is protecting us from an invisible enemy, and you can't even imagine partying in any way. Yes, I could turn the music loud by myself and get drunk pretending I am celebrating, but that's like masturbating and claiming to be sexually active. Done both, and no, not an option for me.
2020 will be written in my memory though as the year when the world governments imprisoned us, for too little reasons, and tested us like hamsters to see how much we can take by being deprived of our liberties, and also the year that I lived my worst Easter. Staying inside, and away from family and friends, makes me realize that what actually gives life's worth is people. Yeah, some fast car can thrill one for a while, but you'll get bored for sure, but you'll never get bored from family and friends.
As I said to a friend of mine, talking on the phone today, I don't know for sure why all this is happening and what is there to be attained exactly, from this pandemic, but I am 100% it is all created and intended, and it won't leave without marks. That's what my intuition tells me, and it has never lied. Hope you are having a great Sunday and wish you all the best!
Thanks for attention,
Adrian
