It is generally stated that nobody has your best interest at heart as you do. That is to say nobody can treat you as good as you would treat yourself,with that being said it is important to establish that we as Christians must understand that our ways are different and that we are called to be examples to those that are yet to find Christ and see the light, by our very actions and expression we are witnessing and sharing the good news of Christ all by our lifestyle, now that's really powerful.! Knowing that without even saying a word we are already distinguishing ourselves by our lifestyle(action and expressions).
Beloved as Christians we must accept that those in the world would not necessarily understand us or applaud us for all we do, as a matter of fact we may even be name shamed or criticized or even abused.But as far as what we do is directly in line with the teachings of Christ then we should be of good cheer because all of these would not be in vain but rather to the glory and praise of God.
One way in which our actions as Christians go contrary to the way of the world is by the expression of the golden rule that says you treat others as they treat. From scriptures we see clearly a contradiction as Christ tells us to live expressly a life of love.
Luke 6:31-35 New Living Translation (NLT)
31 Do to others as you would like them to do to you.
32 “If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them! 33 And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! 34 And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.
35 “Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
It's interesting to note the disposition and motive with which are expected to love (do good) we are expected to do this wanting nothing in return from those to whom we show love to, but rather to do this unto the lord knowing that God who sees all of our actions and motive would rewards us himself for God rewards those who obey his word .
Knowing that we are the only ones that can care for our selves best we ought to extent this way and manner of care to our neighbor(everyone around us) by treating eachother the way we would want to be treated if we were in their position.

This makes more sense when we all bear this same mind and act the same way.
Philippians 2:2 New International Version (NIV)
2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.
It states that for us as Christians to be examples to others to follow,definitely it may not be as easy when we start out but over time it would get easier, and most importantly this brings honour to Christ and that is all we ought to be doing as Christians lifting up the name of Christ and pointing others towards Christ by our lifestyle (actions and expressions).
