The Beatles: my vinyl records 🇬🇧 🇪🇸

The 1960s are considered the golden age of vinyl records, and if any rock band captured people's hearts, it was the Beatles. That quartet that emerged from Liverpool, UK, and forged its musical history.

Yesterday, in this post, you learned about the origins of the first shellac records when I mentioned the gramophone and, later, 7-inch records.

Today I'll share the vinyl records I own from this rock band, which began its rise to fame at the Cavern Club, the place where they played those first songs that led them to build their great musical legacy.

I bought these records secondhand because they aren't sold in my country. There were even years when it was illegal to listen to their music.

I'll organize them according to their release year.

With the Beatles (1963)

It was the group's second studio album, featuring eight new tracks for a total of fourteen songs.

They decided on a black and white cover, and the photo was taken in a dark hotel hallway.

To achieve the square composition, they placed Ringo Starr in the bottom right corner, as he was the shortest member and the last to join the band.

Fue el segundo álbum de estudio del grupo, con ocho temas nuevos, para un total de catorce canciones.

Optaron por una portada en blanco y negro, y la foto se tomó en el oscuro pasillo de un hotel.

Para lograr la composición cuadrada, colocaron a Ringo Starr en la esquina inferior derecha, ya que era el miembro más bajo y el último en unirse a la banda.

The Beatles (A Hard Day's Night) 1964

It was their third studio album. This is the Russian version, from 1986. It has 12 songs, and the tracks on side A were used in their film of the same name.

The Beatles (Rubber Soul) 1965

Their sixth studio album treats us to 14 songs. A palette of musical styles is evident, ranging from folk to soul.

The lyrics are more elaborate, and additional instruments have been added to their usual repertoire, such as the sitar and harmonium.

Su sexto álbum de estudio nos ofrece 14 canciones. Se aprecia una amplia gama de estilos musicales, desde el folk hasta el soul.

Las letras son más elaboradas y han incorporado nuevos instrumentos a su repertorio habitual, como el sitar y el armonio.

The Beatles (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) 1967

It was a colorful album with a striking cover. In the center: John, Ringo, Paul, and George, dressed in British military uniforms.

It was their eighth studio album and considered by experts to be the band's best project and one of the best albums in the world. It featured a restrained production with the inclusion of an orchestra and keyboards. As with the White Album, the tracks flow seamlessly together without the usual gaps.

Era un álbum colorido con una portada impactante. En el centro: John, Ringo, Paul y George, están vestidos con uniformes militares británicos.

Fue su octavo álbum de estudio y considerado por los expertos como el mejor trabajo de la banda y uno de los mejores álbumes del mundo. The Beatles (1968)

Known as the White Album, it was the tenth project recorded in a studio. It features a cocktail of musical genres, ranging from blues to experimental music. The album is unique in that there are no breaks between songs, and they were mixed in both mono and stereo versions.

According to critics, it is considered one of their best albums. On the other hand, it was during the recording phase that the first interpersonal conflicts began to emerge, due to relationship issues and addiction.

Conocido como el Álbum Blanco, fue el décimo proyecto grabado en estudio. Presenta una mezcla de géneros musicales, desde el blues hasta la música experimental. El álbum es único porque no tiene pausas entre las canciones y se mezclaron tanto en mono como en estéreo.

Según la crítica, se considera uno de sus mejores álbumes. Por otro lado, fue durante la grabación cuando comenzaron a surgir los primeros conflictos interpersonales, debido a problemas de pareja y adicciones.

Abbey Road (1969)

Their eleventh studio album reached number one in both the UK and the US.

Their iconic photo shows them crossing the pedestrian crossing in front of EMI Studios, now Abbey Road. Each member is wearing a different colored outfit, and Paul is barefoot.

It was recorded in stereo and never released in mono. The mix features superior sound quality, with Alan Parsons also contributing to it.

Hey Jude (The Beatles Again) 1970

It is a compilation of 10 simple tracks, recorded from 1964 to 1969.
The photos chosen for the front and back covers were taken at the home of Yoko Ono and Lennon in Tittenhurst Park.

The Beatles (1962-1966) 1973

If any album achieved widespread popularity, it was the one known as the Red Album, a compilation of hits from 1962 to 1966.
The initial photograph was taken on the interior staircase of the EMI studios in Manchester Square, London.

There are two versions of this album, the American and the UK.
The one I have is the UK version, which starts with the song "Love Me Do." The American version starts with the song "She Loves You."

What audio equipment do I use to listen to the Beatles' music?

Since their music was primarily based on string instruments and drums, I chose a Pioneer PL-1100 turntable with a wooden body. I pair it with a Sansui sound system.

These components, from the 1970s, bring out the most realistic details of the sound without sacrificing the midrange frequencies, so prominent in the Beatles' songs.

In this way, I enjoy a more vintage sound with just the right quality to transport me back to the 1960s, when these four young men from Liverpool left an indelible mark not only on the Cavern Club, but also on the memories of several generations.

¿Qué equipo de audio utilizo para escuchar la música de los Beatles?

Como su música se basaba principalmente en instrumentos de cuerda y batería, elegí un tocadiscos Pioneer PL-1100 con cuerpo de madera. Lo combino con un sistema de sonido Sansui.

Estos componentes, de la década de 1970, resaltan los detalles más realistas del sonido sin sacrificar las frecuencias medias, tan prominentes en las canciones de los Beatles.

De esta manera, disfruto de un sonido más vintage con la calidad justa para transportarme a la década de 1960, cuando estos cuatro jóvenes de Liverpool dejaron una huella imborrable no solo en el Cavern Club, sino también en la memoria de varias generaciones.
