Modalidades fotográficas a competición:
Ambiente

It's not an alienđź‘˝: it's underwater photography
Come on, move fast! Behind comes a stranger with weird gadgets, releasing air bubbles and throwing bright lights on the floor of our house.
As you can see in the opening photo, these grunt fish of the Haemulidae family, stampede at the sight of a diver with equipment, and taking underwater photos using external lights for support.
Friends, you have been able to know, throughout my posts, different sports modalities related to underwater activities.
That diver that moves near the seabed, is not there by chance, it is a sporting event of underwater photography.
What is this modality about?
Taking pictures in an underwater environment, following the rules dictated by an accredited sports federation. You compete in different modalities, and the result of the photos goes through a final evaluation that will dictate the best images.
It is something specific and takes into account the same principles of photography used on land, where the influence of the physical laws of the underwater environment and the diver's psychophysical preparation are added.
What equipment is needed?
Although freediving photography is possible, most often, underwater photography competitions are done with SCUBA equipment.
Equipment for free diving: wetsuit, dive weight, mask, snorkel and fins.
Equipment for scuba diving: Add a metal tank for the breathing gas mixture, regulator with console to register the pressure in the tank and the depth at which you dive, a buoyancy compensator, knife, gloves, neoprene boots, dive computer, etc.
Camera:
This can be any camera that is submersible by design or a regular camera. The camera is placed inside a watertight protective housing to prevent water from penetrating inside.
These can be compact or SLR type cameras with interchangeable lenses.
External lights:
These can be flashlights, flashes and focusing lights.
Photographic modalities in competition:
Ambient
Ambient with diver
Macro photography
Fish photography
Back-up medical team
As in any underwater sporting event, the support of medical and diver team should be guaranteed to prevent and treat any eventuality or accident that may occur.
In our experience, we have not had dysbaric accidents, which are those caused by the effects of environmental pressure, but we have had others caused by injuries from marine organisms.
Sports broadcasting:
Although they are little publicized events, sometimes a diffusion is achieved by radio and television. Here we see sports commentator Héctor Villar with Deborah Andollo, where she explains the objectives of the activity and issues related to diving. A competition that took place on the coastline of the Playa municipality, in Habana.
Below, a journalist interviews underwater photographer Carlos Otero and MimĂ, being his model and accompanying diver.
Results of a final award by category:

Fish photography:
Well, I hope you enjoyed learning about this sporting activity; and to see, through these photos, some of the marine species that inhabit the beautiful and warm waters of the Caribbean.
Have a nice start of the week.
