What really happens when we doze off? I have always been fascinated with the sleep state, most especially, dreams and it's never ending fictional imaginations. For those out there saying "but I don't dream" that is a lie you tell yourself, we all dream but most of us just forget.
Lucid dreaming is like the holy grail of sleep, imagine having control of the world around you, able to create and mould it as you see fit. It's like the most enlightening virtual reality no man-made technology can replicate, and you don't have to pay a dime for it. all you need to do is just be aware you are dreaming while still in your dream state.
When was the last vivid dream you had and how did it differ from reality as you know it, was it a nightmare or a pleasant dream, were you driving your dream car or being chased by a monster. you woke up to realize you were dreaming, but just a moment ago you didn't know you were dreaming, you could have sworn it was real life. you were in a perceived reality, your five senses were engaged, these same senses you are using now. Take a look around you; are you sure you are not in a dream? lol.
Scientists had since discovered that the neuron network of the brain when we sleep works similarly to waking state. The part that shuts down is the logical part of the brain. That is why you could see someone with five arms in your dream but still lack critical thinking to say "wait that can't be real?"
Whether you believe it or not, your dreams have a great impact on your reality, like I said earlier; if an average human 85 years old spends 28 years of his lifetime asleep like a log of wood. That is free-time that can be used with lucidity. many artists, writers and inventors have confessed to using lucid dreams; Steven King, Leonardo DiCaprio, Albert Eisenstein, Nikolai Tesla, etc, They all used lucid dreams to create.
The power of the human mind cannot be overemphasized. our brain is like a supercomputer it analyses in nanoseconds we cannot comprehend, in dream state you can slow things down. I remember one dream I had when I was learning lucid dreaming; I was among a SWAT group trying to flush out a terrorist hiding, we spent 2 hours trying to get him. I woke up to realize that only 10 mins had passed in real life, wait a minute, I subconsciously simulated a world were 2 hours equals 10 mins, "free time inception."
I later found out that experienced lucid dreamers while in the lucid state do this regularly by visualizing dream characters moving in slow motion, imagining a giant clock with the hands moving extremely slow, or by just shouting "time stop!". Amazing, isn't it?
Applications of lucid dreaming are endless. You can practice your life skills in a dream state, are you an instrumentalist, songwriter, fashion designer, athlete, etc. A Harvard study actually proved this; two groups were given a task a flipping a coin into a cup, the group that practised it in their dreams had higher levels of accuracy. You could overcome your fears in a lucid state. You could speak to your subconscious entity personified. There are no limitations as long as you can create. Thanks for reading. My fellow dreamers.
