Thankfully, in the bull market of 2020, I was able to make some good crypto decisions and I converted enough crypto into fiat to pay off all of our loans except our mortgage.
Wow, good on ya man, that's great to hear a story like that of selling some crypto at the right time and being able to get rid of some real life debt.
I have a large drive which I want to get tarmacked, and I am trying to decide whether to take out a loan or sell some investments and use that money. However I do like holding investments long term, but I guess they are there to be used too, still thinking over the best approach.
When it comes to new cars, we never get a full loan, but never get it with pure cash either, we usually try to put up half the cash and get a loan for the remainder and then set about clearing the debt as quickly as possible.
As someone who understands compound interest, I don't like debt, so our mortgage is the only debt we currently have, but it does not mean I will never take out another loan, sometimes you need that crutch for a short, medium or long while, but you just have to manage it well and not let it spiral. The banks must love people who can't pay down much principal and spend there lives paying off mad interest that accrues..
