You have things well sossed man and are on the ball a lot more than most it seems.
You're right that we only have a certain life span in our careers and employers can be ageist too, so job hunting at 55 is a lot different to job hunting at 35.
No matter how good we are at our jobs there's always a chance that we are replaced and that's even more true today with automation and AI.
So I'm like you and looking to invest the extra cash, or pay down some extra mortgage payments or putting extra Hive into HBD. I'm doing that now too. Every week I'm going to put in 1/2/3 HBD depending on what the post payouts are..

We want our families to have everything they need if we get called back upstairs earlier than we hope.
Also with retirement age in Ireland being 65 and many people living to 90, you need much more money to survive too
