I always mean to post something in Weekend Experiences and then don't get around to it, so here I am. For me anything with the @galenkp seal approval is worth supporting, as I always find his posts interesting and he's a great man to engage in the comments too.
I got up to quite a bit this weekend, all things told, I met some old buddies in town last night for a few pints, which was fantastic. A few good friends of mine were down from Dublin and another friend who I hadn't seen in about six years was home from New Zealand for a short holiday. The banter and craic were quality and we put a lot of these bad boys away.
Then early this morning, with quite the hangover I grabbed the clubs and made my way out to my local golf club and played the Sunday competition. I am a very competitive person, so playing golf at least once a week is paramount for me.
I got off to a cracking start today with good drives and lasered irons into the greens on the first two holes, a six iron 184 yards on the first and an eight iron 163 yards on the second. Both shots left me with birdie chances from inside fifteen feet and although I didn't make either putt, I had tap in pars on each and starting par/par is always a great start for me.
I started getting sloppy thereafter and went double bogey, bogey, double bogey, double bogey, triple bogey and that was game over really. I got to 47 on the front nine, but never got it going for the round, adding a second nine 45, for an average at best 92 strokes or 31 stableford points playing off fifteen.
Next on the agenda was getting the boys out of the house for a few hours.
There are pros and cons, good and bad to mostly everything, to all our decisions we make as we travel along the road of life. Each stage brings roads that diverge and we can only travel one, so we must decide. When we moved back to Galway we had the option of bidding on urban houses closer to Galway city or rural houses further out the country. Each has advantages and disadvantages like everything in life and it is simply a matter of trying to weigh them up against each other.
We opted for a country life and couldn't be happier, and although we are in the countryside with fields, farms and lakes all around us, Galway city is a short 10km away or €20 in a taxi, so it is just perfect.
One of the great things about living out where we do is the gorgeous country walks that are all around us and we have so many options. As you'll know we have a dog too or a puppy maybe, she's sixteen months, so having lots of options for walks is fantastic.
Today was a nice dry day and not too hot, So I decided to walk Coco and the kids five kilometers to the local playground, which was a nice bit of exercise for us all and gave my wife a bit of a break too. Here are a few photos I took along the way.
The boys found this little guy along the way. He was frantically trying to cross the road and although the road is not overly busy, the boys did not want to risk him turning into Caterpillar jam, so my eldest picked him up and gave him a lift to the other side of the road.
