If I were asked this question some years ago, I would have told you straightforward that I do not mind seeing my partner with a best friend. Hmm but now! What exactly is that best friend bestering for my partner that I cannot not bestify for him myself. It might sound funny but I’m so serious.
When I was in level 200, I had this male colleague who had a girlfriend and a best friend. Anytime he had issues with his girlfriend, he would just go to his best friend’s place. As a person whose mouth is non-judgemental yet facial expression says otherwise, I used my face to communicate to him that her best friend was his back up plan anytime he had issues with girlfriend.
Honestly, I felt there was more to it than just what I was seeing on the outside but it wasn’t really my business to interfere, after all, they were two adults who knew exactly what they were doing. If you disagree with me then explain to me why instead of solving his problems with his girlfriend, he would rather run to his “best friend”. For what?! Tell me.
Anyway, prepare for the shock of your life. Right after school, I heard he was now with his best friend but I thought they were just rumors until I saw their baby naming ceremony flyer. I was so surprised and sad. I felt sorry for the campus girlfriend because I saw her sacrifice a lot for the guy. All the cooking and washing for the guy and his 10 friends went into thin air. All the campus wife duties went nowhere.
The most painful part was the “reason” why the guy broke up with her. According to her, the guy said his pastor at home called him to inform him to break up with the lady he was dating now. Why? She wasn’t the lady he was going to marry in future.
The moment I heard this, I laughed and asked myself, how can you tell me this story bruh!
Well, she is doing good for herself now and most importantly, she’s really happy now with a new person. She is over everything but even me as a bystander can’t shake everything that happened off. Knowing what this lady went through, I try my best to give my male friends space the moment I find out they are in a romantic relationship. I know they hate it but then, I am a lady too and it would hurt me to see my partner unnecessarily so close to another lady and to even call her best friend.
I allowed these things to happen some years ago because I was naive but now that I have a gun, I won’t let bygones just go by. As I said earlier, it won’t work oh! Ei! There’s nothing that best friend is bestering for my man that I can’t bestify for him. He can’t have a best friend, for what? Charley Charley!
