Ever since I got to know what was right and wrong, I’ve never had a normal birthday. That’s because I’m mostly in the hospital during my birthday fighting for my life. Nobody forgets but then again, they only just brush it off because they are mostly busy running too many hospital errands for me.Weird part is, I’ve always been very healthy throughout the year except my birthdays. Really weird right?

It got to a time, I just accepted that I was always going to be really sick on my birthdays. Silly mistake I ever did. Well, let’s blame that on the fact that I was just a child. I didn’t know the mind was a powerful tool. I didn’t know everything stemed from the mind and that you’re exactly what you think. Just as I accepted, it always came to pass that I was always sick on my birthdays. It got worse each and every year.

I remember how I used to spend the day before my birthday in the hospital just anticipating for the sickness on the following day. Over the years, my family have tried everything possible. My mom used to say maybe my soul was sad so she would do things to make me happy. I remember how we used to go shopping the day before my birthday. They were times we celebrated my birthday a day before just to get me really excited but nothing worked.

Annoying part was that there was nothing weong with me. The highest diagnose was stress, burnout. None of those diagnosis made sense. I concluded that maybe me falling sick on my birthday was a blessing in disguise because who knew what would happen if I were to celebrate my birthday. You know. Anything that could make sense. Last two years, I was so intentional and I planned that nothing was going to make me go to the hospital on my birthday. Right the day before my birthday, I couldn’t even open my eyes. I woke up in a hospital and I actually laughed because the sickness used its mind for me.

Last year was different, I didn’t fall sick on my birthday but I fell sick weeks to my birthday and I never fully recovered until after my birthday. It felt like the sickness was now devising new strategies.
This year!!!! Let me hear you say “this year”! I was so tired and I said to myself, this year has to be different. It’s two things, it’s either I “celebrate my birthday being healthy or nothing”. I didn’t justify falling sick in any way.

Guess what?! I celebrated my birthday this week feeling and looking very healthy. I did not even have any headache, nothing at all. At a point, I kept on checking my calendar if it was really my birthday. I’m just really grateful that I didn’t spend that day in the hospital just like any other birthday. I just keep smiling anytime I remember this. So that is how it feels to be healthy on a birthday? This is nice!
