The Almendares River is the main river that crosses almost through the center of the city of Havana. In its winding path, stories are added under each bridge, in addition to a tremendous pollution load. Barriers have been installed in several areas to prevent plastics from reaching the sea to some extent, and they have worked when they are kept stable in the collection of accumulated material, when this fails, it is noticeable on both margins. Despite this, many gulls, pelicans and herons wander around the mouth, and the occasional freshwater turtle pokes its head upstream. These images show some interesting points in this landscape, along with the destructive reality of our polluting habits.
El río Almendares es el curso de agua que atraviesa casi por el centro a la Ciudad de la Habana. En su trayecto sinuoso, se le van añadiendo historias debajo de cada puente, además de una tremenda carga contaminante. Se han instalado barreras en varias zonas para evitar en cierta medida que los plásticos lleguen al mar, y han funcionado cuando se les mantiene una estabilidad en la recogida del material acumulado, cuando esto falla, se nota en ambas márgenes. A pesar de ésto, muchas gaviotas, pelícanos y garzas se pasean por la desembocadura, y a veces alguna que otra tortuga de agua dulce asoma su cabeza río arriba. Estas imágenes muestran algunos puntos interesantes en este paisaje, junto a la realidad destructiva de nuestros hábitos contaminantes.
