Every drawing session teaches me something new. Today's charcoal study was less about drawing a cat and more about understanding form, light, and structure
Drawing process
As a sculptor, I constantly remind myself that drawing is not just about creating an image—it's about learning how volumes occupy space. Every shadow reveals a plane, every highlight describes a surface, and every line helps me understand what my hands will later create in three dimensions.
Working with charcoal allowed me to focus on contrast and the subtle transitions between light and shadow. I particularly enjoyed capturing the alert expression in the eyes while keeping the background loose and expressive.
There is still room to improve—especially in refining proportions and simplifying the forms—but every sketch brings me one step closer to becoming a better artist.
