The collapse of General Kohler in Aceh

Aceh's history is quite unique and interesting, full of intrigue and political battles. Although the Dutch have controlled almost all corners of the archipelago, for some reason they have not dared to seize Aceh. They just invaded into Aceh on Saturday, March 22, 1873. It was marked when four Dutch ships docked to the mainland of Aceh, precisely in the North Port of Ulee Lheue, Banda Aceh. The arrival of four Dutch ships, writes M.H. Skelely Lulofs in the book "Cut Nyak Din Story of the Aceh War War," is the beginning of the history of the Dutch entry into Aceh. Fifteen days after that, there came a larger number of Dutch fleets. One of the ships that docked to the mainland of Aceh named Citadel van Antwerpen which was boarded by Nieuwenhuyzen (Dutch Government Envoy). What is the reason they invaded Aceh? In a letter written by Nieuwenhuyzen, he accused the Sultan of Aceh of harming the Dutch merchant for conspiring with Britain and America. The most distressing reason, Nieuwenhuyzen accused the Acehnese Sultan Alaidin Mahmud Shah had let the robbers in the waters of Aceh raiding Dutch merchants.
Finally, at dawn on 8 April 1873, Dutch ships took troops to the mainland of Aceh. Once leaving the coast, then the Dutch troops got fierce resistance from the warriors of Aceh. Outnumbered, eventually the Aceh warriors retreated to the interior. Dutch troops searched for palaces (kraton-dalem) but they did not know exactly where it was. The natural castle of bamboo spiny, nipah swamp, gardens, rice fields and hills enough to make Dutch troops close to the palace. Later, Dutch troops managed to find a large wall of high and sturdy. They thought that the wall was part of the palace, it was the gate of the Baiturrahman Mosque. Dutch troops tried to enter, but got fierce resistance from the fighters of Aceh. Then the Dutch troops fired on the mosque's compound with fire bullets. Finally, the newly inaugurated mosque was burned by fire. After the mosque was leveled on the ground, Commander of the Dutch Army General JHR Kohler made a visit to the mosque's location on April 14, 1873. While under a geulumpang tree (kelumpang), suddenly an Aceh warrior bulle bounced toward the general. The bullet penetrated the body of General JHR Kohler, he collapsed in blood in front of the Baiturrahman Mosque. After the general collapsed, the Dutch troops retreated to the beach. In fact, that's when the opportunity to defeat them, but the Aceh warriors let the Dutch troops back to his ship. The Acehnese fighters thought that the Dutch troops who fled the fight would not dare to return. It turned out that, in November 1873, Dutch troops returned with 8,000 troops under General Van Swieten. The presence of Dutch troops the second time this, then change the history of Aceh to be so complicated. Blood and death are inevitable.
