Went for a walk this sunny afternoon in the park.
Near the end of the walk I went back to a tree which I had written about in a previous post. This tree had been stripped of bark 7 to 8 feet high.
@elizabethbit had commented on what could have done that, so I returned to take a closer look.
Around the tree were deer tracks and squirrel tracks. I also looked for claw marks but I couldn't see any.
When I got home I did some research on the internet and came to the conclusion that it was a porcupine or a squirrel.
Porcupines climb trees and eat bark. My belief is that it was a squirrel they use bark to line the nests for their young, and they also strip the bark off to eat the sugar underneath.
Mystery solved.
