PeakD has been treating me well so far.
This will be my first root post from the PeakD interface. Hopefully I have enough RC after pretending to curate with my measly stake. I've made a few comments from PeakD and it's just miles ahead of hive.blog, a clone of Steemit. I always ragged on Steemit but was either too lazy or too insane to switch. With the hard fork my moving spirit spilled over into which interface I use, and I'm never going back.
I absolutely love the dashboard!
I had gotten used to using half a dozen websites to check RC and voting power, manage delegations, or view activity statistics. No more, with PeakD. There's plenty of charts to keep me happy, and even breakdowns I didn't know I wanted to see like incoming and outgoing vote proportions. It's all expandable for a closer look, and complete with mouse over tool-tips for individual data points. RC is shown as a simple percentage instead of a barely readable string of numbers not even separated by comas. I'm definitely going to take some cues from this interface if I come back around to designing an application frontend. Hopefully I'll do better branding too...
I still haven't figured everything out yet though.
I can't find where to claim rewards. I'm not sure if it will appear once I have some to claim or what. I'd rather have the button be obvious and just be grayed out or do nothing if I have nothing to claim. I'd think rewards claiming would be in the wallet tab, but if it's not somehow please let me in on the secret. Other than that I like the wallet page. It has everything I'd expect (except the rewards part) as well as helpful info about everything right there. That would've saved me hours of searching if I didn't already learn it the hard way. I'd like to see some way to hide that info to give a more streamlined look for savvy users, but that's a minor nitpick. Overall it all just looks really pleasing, especially in night mode.
In other news...
The local authorities just recently made what is colloquially called a 'lock down' order to help slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2. We aren't supposed to leave our homes except for necessities like food and outdoor exercise. Most businesses are closed, all the non-essentials. Even grocers are reducing hours and any gathering of 100 or more is outright banned. I've been listening to a lot of news radio and hanging around here on Hive.
I've been self-quarantining already so I'm relatively prepared.
While I do oppose government intervention and being told what to do, I definitely support keeping our medical infrastructure from being overwhelmed. I also really don't want to come down with COVID-19. I have multiple conditions that put me at greater risk of death from this illness. Even still I'm not quite panicking. The odds are pretty good, only some 3ish percent case fatality rate overall. I know the numbers are unreliable and everything too with asymptomatic cases and under reporting. Still, even 1 in 100 is quite a big gamble when it's your life.
I'm honestly more worried about sequelae. I've read about pretty horrible sequelae from SARS round 1. Some people couldn't work after surviving the disease or even take care of themselves afterwards. I'm already disabled, and wouldn't want to be pushed over the edge into becoming a permanent inpatient. If the medical system does get overwhelmed and I contract it, it might also be a challenge to avoid lasting psychological damage from shoddy quarantine and the like.
Lot's to worry about these days.
I'll ride it out by debating philosophy with people I'll never meet and tending to the infant hard fork of my favorite social blockchain.
Stay safe out there!
Don't touch your face, stay a generous 10 feet away from conspecifics, and scrub your grabbers regularly if only for my sake.
Thanks for reading!
Special thanks to
@enforcer48 for opening my eyes to PeakD!
