SPEAK OF THE DEVEL The ultimate SUV? Insane £300,000 six-wheel Devel Sixty revealed in Dubai is ready for the apocalypse

The Devel Sixty looks like something from some cheesy Michael Bay flick. It’s extraterrestrial proportions and menacing black paint give it an ominous, if not villainous appearance. The front looks like nothing we’ve seen before and takes a big departure away from conventional design layouts. The long, boxy body leads to an angular rear end with LED light strips for tail and brake lights. Big D-ring shackles serve as easy recovery points for pulling stranded vehicles to solid ground.

The Sixty rides on Continental MPT 81 tires sized in something over 40 inches tall. They’re mounted on multi-piece beadlock wheels that incorporate the tire inflation system. Ground clearance is best measured in feet.

powering this beast is a 6.7-liter V-8 turbodiesel making a respectable 720 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to push this six-wheeled wonder to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds and to a governed top speed of 93 mph. Devel didn’t announce information on the transmission, transfer case, differentials, or where the powertrain is sourced. Our bed is Ford since it makes a 6.7-liter V-8 turbodiesel in the U.S., which conveniently, is also where Devel is based.

Devel does say the Sixty has an independent suspension system and portal axles, but from the photos we see, we’re thinking that might not be true. In fact, the front axle looks suspiciously like the solid front axle on a Ford Super Duty, which is not a portal design. The rear suspension clearly has leaf springs spanning between the two axles, making them not independent.

Pricing

Big trucks aren’t cheap and the Devel Sixty is no different. It starts at $450,000. Orders will take roughly a year to fulfill and it isn’t clear if Devel has sold any. Since the debut happened in Dubai, though, we’re betting at least a handful were preordered by some oil tycoons.
