The Quest For Knowledge

@hivewatchers this is my appeal. I am rewriting this story in hopes that you will remove the down vote and the comment.

I know I said I would have this up by nine this morning but I really got into this one and went a little crazy. It got to the point where I thought it would take me the rest of the day to finish the story so I came up with this scene which is exactly what was asked for in this prompt.

Ryne and Vyncis looked at each other as they neared the tree. They could feel the change in the atmosphere. They walked around it looking for a way in. Ryne leaned against it looking for a weak spot and turned to look at her brother. From her peripheral vision she could see a wavering in the appearance of the tree.

"Vync Look".

Vyncis turned to look at his sister with a quizzical look on his face.

"What is it Ryne"? He asked with worry in his voice.

His sister turned to look back at him and started to walk around the tree. Her hand landed on what felt like a door knob. She grinned as she turned the handle and fell into a room.

Vyncis followed through the spot Ryne had just disappeared through and was awed at what he saw. It was a small cabin lined with book shelves filled with books. The room was fairly clean except for the table in the center. It had piles of books and papers on it.

Ryne and Vyncis walked over to the table and started to sift through the piles to see if they could find anything useful.

Vyncis wandered away from the table looking at the book shelves. Although he had seen the board leaning against one of the shelves his distraction with the books got the better of him and he kicked the board over.

The noise startled Ryne who looked up as her brother got down on his hands and knees. She grabbed one of the papers she had been reading and moved to her brothers side, kneeling down to get a better view at what her brother was looking at.

At that moment there was a grinding noise and they looked at each other.

Ryne got down lower to get a better view and saw what appeared to be a panel. She put her hand to it and it whirred but nothing happened. She turned to her brother.

"Put your hand next to mine", she suggested.

He did so and there was more grinding. Only this time it was louder. They stood up and looked around the room to see part of the floor had fallen away into a descending stair case.

Vyncis turned to his sister as he headed boldly to the stairs and walked down until just his head showed.

"Come on Ryne. Lets see what's below". He stood there and waited for her to move. She grabbed a stick sitting in the corner and followed her brother down the stairs.

This was much larger then the room they entered into above. There were two tables sitting together in one corner surrounded on three sides by more book shelves. The only walls seemed to be those of more book shelves which in turn created divisions into smaller alcoves. There were four room divisions with a pillar at the center.

Ryne closed her eyes as she walked away from the staircase. She stopped briefly, took a deep breath and opened her eyes. She walked to the side opposite the table alcove and started looking at the books on the shelves. One level of shelves caught her attention. The knick knacks were out of place among all the books. She moved them around as she looked and caught sight of an intricately carved wooden box.

She pulled the box off the shelf and instantly it started to vibrate. She dropped it and Vyncis turned around from the book he was perusing to see what happened.

He could see the box bounce and hover in the air as it spun. He ran to his sisters side as they watched the box transform before their eyes into a robotic being.

"If I am being activated that means there is work to do to prepare the next protectors". said the being.

"Umm who and what are you", Ryne asked.

"I am Guardian Bot 1861X. I was created in the event that current lead protectors are discovered."

"Ok. Do you want to explain to us what this is all about", Vyncis demanded. "We have been on the run in hiding for three months now and still can not make sense of all this."

"All in due time young protector. That is part of the training".
