Spey Tenné, Spey Chairman's Choice and Spey 18YO

Its been a while since I went to Whisgars (see earlier post https://partiko.app/yippeekaiyay/life-and-travel-whisgars-sukhumvit-soi-23-bangkok-50eduyb9?referrer=yippeekaiyay) so I made my way there for a cigar (been a while since I had a cigar also). No sooner had I settled in and the lovely server installed these 3 bottles for me to try. I had bought the Chairman's Choice before so I knew how good it was but I was intrigued to taste the other 2. Pure coincidence that these are all Speyside whiskys so my run continues from the Speyside whisky flight (see last posting). And to think I wasn't planning to have a drink, just smoke a cigar.

SPEY TENNÉ

A darker whisky as a result of being finished in tawny port casks, the nose is sweeter than a typical Speyside whisky though the light floral and nutty aromas are still there. It reminded me of a highlands whisky with the colour and the caramel honey odour. The tasting followed the aromas pretty closely but with a little spice to boot. Very happy with this whisky and ended up buying a bottle. More caramel than other portwood finish whiskys (e.g. Balvenie Portwood).

SPEY CHAIRMAN'S CHOICE

This whisky is a quintessential Speyside whisky - light floral nutty aroma, slightly sweet and spicy taste but very smooth and unassuming.

SPEY 18YO

Almost bought this instead of the Spey Tenné but for double the price, it wasn't two times better than the Tenné. Though it was a better whisky having more complexity and spice than the other 2.

TRINIDAD VIGIA

Have said a lot about this cigar already so not going to say much more (https://partiko.app/yippeekaiyay/penfolds-bin-28-shiraz-2006-trinidad-vigia-and-soju-35naagft?referrer=yippeekaiyay).

AJ FERNANDEZ NEW WORLD ROBUSTO

I was given this cigar a few months ago and forgot I even had it. So... why not? First impressions were very favourable - a good draw, plentiful smoke, very light almost creamy flavour with a little bitter spice after taste. I looked more closely and the wrapper was intriguing..... didn't expect a Nicaraguan cigar could taste that light and creamy. The flavour did strengthen towards the end but an enjoyable smoke all the way through.
